Heavy counterbalance forklifts — the guardian of finished goods
For finished storage and outbound, coils and wide plates weighing several to dozens of tons overwhelm ordinary trucks. Dedicated heavy counterbalance forklifts with very high rated loads (10 t and above) and reinforced masts lead the field, usually with heat-resistant tires and strengthened hydraulics that withstand short-term 80 °C exposure. At loading docks, operators stack and load with intense force while flexible turning radii keep operations comfortable beside crowded rail cars.
Reach trucks — dancers in narrow aisles
As land costs rise, steel plants build higher stereoscopic warehouses with narrower aisles. Reach trucks' unique mast-forward function makes them the best partners for high-density storage: in steel-coil vertical warehouses they access high positions in extremely narrow aisles, improving space utilization — and with anti-collision sensors and positioning assist, they avoid damaging expensive racks and coils in dim conditions.
Explosion- & corrosion-resistant electric forklifts — into the core process
In pickling, galvanizing and other chemical treatment zones, corrosive gases or flammable volatiles may hang in the air. Electric forklifts with special anti-corrosion coatings — and even explosion-proof ratings — protect their precision electronics from dust while eliminating the ignition hazard from the source, safeguarding continuous production.
Underride-lifting AGVs — the silent pushers
For component delivery and small steel transfer, underride-lifting AGVs show extreme efficiency: they slip under heavy racks and lift them whole to designated stations. This goods-to-person model slashes manual search time. With laser SLAM navigation (no magnetic tape or QR codes), they avoid floor obstacles — oil stains, iron filings — and achieve millimeter-level docking with line transfer stations.
Heavy-duty omnidirectional AGVs — giants that break space constraints
For steel coils of a dozen tons or long billets, conventional tow AGVs struggle. Heavy-duty omnidirectional AGVs carry independent drive wheels for in-place 360° rotation and lateral movement: in tight spaces beside rolling lines, they crab-walk huge coils precisely into uncoilers even with no turning radius. Load-adaptive suspension keeps the body level on slightly uneven floors, preventing load slip.
Rugged DNA — made for harsh environments
Steel-mill AGVs must be iron-headed and iron-armed: IP54+ protection and sealed thermostatic enclosures shield key electronics from heat and dust; 5G low-latency communication ensures dispatch commands are not lost or delayed among multiple vehicles in complex electromagnetic environments — enabling true 7×24 unattended operation.
Symbiosis — a full-process smart logistics loop
No single vehicle solves everything; the future is human-machine cooperation and multi-vehicle synergy. In the relay, heavy forklifts unload trucks to staging, heavy AGVs carry coils the long distance to hot-rolling lines, and underride AGVs deliver auxiliary materials to workstations — each vehicle excels in its section. A digital brain — unified RCS (robot control system) and WMS — computes optimal paths by production priority in real time; when an AGV runs low on power, the system reassigns a standby vehicle or directs it to wireless charging, so the logistics chain never breaks. For safety redundancy in mixed human-machine zones, forklifts and AGVs interact via V2X: an AGV slows or stops when a forklift approaches, while forklift warning lights and sound alarms alert drivers to nearby intelligent equipment.
